  • The final schedule of classes will be posted by Thursday, September 23nd.   Please advise Management of specific scheduling needs.

  • Obstacle classes will be run concurrently with Ring Classes.

  • Green Horse or Pony is in 1st year of Competition.  Novice Whip is in 1st year of Competition.

  • Jack Benny is 60 or older.

  • Multiples may enter any class that does not have a specific class assigned for them . They will show under horse or pony for obstacle classes. 

  • VSE are welcome.  Any ring class with 3 or more pre-entered will be separated  into their own class. 

  • Management reserves the right to split or combine classes as entries warrant.  If horse/pony classes are to be divided, they will be divided into horse and pony.

  • Juniors: All juniors must wear helmets anytime they are in the carriage.  Juniors are not restricted to the Junior classes only. Juniors under 14 must be accompanied by an adult in all classes.  Juniors 14 and under 18 on the first day of the show may drive alone or with an adult.)

This is a brief description of the classes. Cantering is not allowed and will be penalized according to ADS rules, (except, see below **).  For a full description of class and scoring, see the 2008 ADS Handbook, Pleasure Driving Competitions, Obstacle Driving.  Available on-line at http://www.americandrivingsociety.org/forms/ADS_Forms.htm .

Obstacles set at 8’3” will be adjusted down for VSE.

Reverse Psychology- Timed competition through 10 sets of cones.  Drive through in order, reverse around a marker and drive the course in reverse.

Timed Cones – Fastest time over a numbered course of 15-20 sets of cones. 

Scurry -  Fastest time over a set of unnumbered cones, not more than 10 sets, each to be driven once.

Gambler’s Choice – Driven over an unnumbered course of obstacles, each with a point value, in a specific time.   Most points accumulated within the time frames wins.

**However, for fun or schooling, and to compare times at other gaits, you may re-drive obstacle class courses a 2nd (or multiple) time, at any gait, for a $5.00 fee each, if no 1st round entry is waiting, and for no placing/ribbon, as time allows.

Refreshments available on grounds, EXCEPT for Friday. Competitors’ party Saturday night at Harmon Field.  Bar-B-Q and all the fixin's, 
$15 per person.  Send in with entry.

            1st – 5 points

            2nd – 4 points

            3rd – 3 point

If there are less than 5 in a class, points will be adjusted down, starting with 1st place points equal to the number of entries in the class.

 

 

Entry and Stabling Fees

Entry Fees - $10.00 per class for ring and cones classes, $15 per class for dressage if received by September 13, 2010. After September 13, 2010, $15.00 per class. No fee charged for Combined Test, automatically entered if you enter the designated dressage and cones. Extra classes may added at the show at early entry price if initial entry is postmarked early.  Dressage test may be driven twice, only the first to count, time permitting.

Stalls available by reservation @ $25 per day.  Stalls must be stripped.  Send a separate check for $15 which will be returned if stall is stripped.  We do not provide shavings.  You must bring you own or order in advance from Caroline McSwain 828-817-4834, who will have them delivered for you.  Stalls will be assigned with last name on stall door.  Competitors working out of their trailer may use a stall for the same fee as overnighters.  Competitors who trailer in will pay $15.00 property use fee if they don’t use a stall.

Camping fee: $25 a night, includes electricity and water. 

General Rules

The objective of this show is to encourage new drivers and horses and to help more experienced drivers to advance their skills in an atmosphere of friendly competition, and to have fun, safely.

      This Show will be conducted following ADS Rules and guidelines. The judge’s decision will be final.

      All participants must sign liability Waivers.

      A copy of a current Coggins test must be sent with entry or presented at the show before a number will be given.

      Change of vehicle/equipment are permitted with the same whip and horse.

        Award ribbons in each class to 6th place.

      All dogs MUST be on leash at ALL times (except in Carriage Dog Class) and must be under control while competing.  Fine for each infraction is $25.00.

      The judge may ask for audience participation in judging the carriage dog class.

        The Obstacle courses will be posted by 8:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and may be walked. This area will be off limits for equines as of Thursday night until Saturday classes.  These classes will be run concurrently with the ring classes –- Ponies to compete during horse ring classes and vice versa.

        Ponies are 14.2 and under.

        Please be ready to show Spares and pass safety check if asked by Judge or Show Management

        There will be an approximately 1-hour lunch break on Saturday.  Awards will be held upon completion of ring classes on Sunday.  There will be no lunch break on Sunday.

Directions to Harmon Field:
The Exit off I-26 is # 67 and the distance from there to the 2nd  gate is 3.1miles.  Coming along 108 towards Tryon, they need to look out  for the fork to the Right with sign TO 176 and an arrow slanting right.   That is Harmon Field Road.  Coming Spartanburg one is going WEST on  I-26, and EAST from Asheville.
